Production
THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OF UAB JŪRĖS MEDIS:

1. Accepting and sorting of raw materials
2. Drying
3. Production of glue laminated constructions in the automatized production line
4. Final processing
5. Quality control

1. ACCEPTING AND SORTING OF RAW MATERIALS

The raw materials of UAB Jūrės medis production are double sawn boards from spruce and pine. The acceptance control of raw materials includes the width, thickness, moisture metering and visual evaluation according to the size of branches, width of annual flutes, sawing quality, damages made by devices and impurities. The boards received during acceptance are unpackaged, sorted and packaged to the packs suitable for selling to the drying houses and only the timber of high quality, meeting all standards, is used in the production later. Unpackaging, sorting and packaging are performed using the mechanised line of the company LEDINEK.

2. DRYING

Three drying compartments of convective type comprise the drying bar. It is possible to load approx. 800 m3 of double sawn boards to the drying compartments simultaneously. The duration of drying process is about 8-9 days, subject to the primary timber moisture, kind and thickness. The moisture content of dried timber used later in the production is 12 +/-2%.

3. PRODUCTION OF GLUE LAMINATED CONSTRUCTIONS IN THE AUTOMATIZATED PRODUCTION LINE:

3.1 FORMATION OF PRODUCTION BATCH

Production process starts with the preparing of production, i.e., formation of production batch. The technologist forms the specific production batch from some orders, according to the dimensions of cross-sections and lengths of the products, simultaneously evaluating various parameters, such as: production term, optimum loading presses, raw material present at the moment of order, etc. Such order prepared for the production is typed to the central computer of all line management.

3.2 MANUFACTURE OF LAMELLAS

When activating the production of batch, the packages of dried boards are supplied to the line by the forklift. The boards from the package are delivered through the mechanised line to the metering and primary visual evaluation zone. Further, the boards are calibrated, i.e., milled from all four sides and all defects are cut out. Later, boards are sorted to the internal and external lamellas and according to the different strength classes. The boards prepared are transported to the unit of tenon milling. After performing the wedge-curved tenon milling the handouts are placed to the zone for lamination of glue on the tenons. Glue is applied by the most modern equipment at the moment by the non-contact way and the lamination quality is controlled using video camera. Later the handouts are placed to the longitudinal press where pressing on the basis of the length is performed. The “endless” lamella is produced in such a way; it is sawed using special reciprocating saw on the basis of the required length.

Before pressing the precise milling of 4 sides of lamellas and application of glue are performed, i.e., pressing batch is prepared. Glue and hardener are laid on lamellas, using separate glue laying mechanisms; it is a modern method. In order to glue timber beams, glue produced on the basis of melamine/carbamide resin, i.e., environment and human health friendly are used. When it is necessary, the glue produced on the basis of resorcinol/formaldehyde resin is used.

3.3 PRESSING

In the production line of UAB “Jūrės medis” 2 hydraulic presses for gluing timber are integrated: for gluing of straight timber beams, the working length of which is 36 m and gluing press for curved timber beams, the working length which is 40 m.

The lamellas laminated with glue/hardener are assembled on the special package assemblage equipment that places the prepared package of lamellas to the press for straight or curved timber beams. When it is necessary, the straight timber beams can be laminated using the press for curved timber beams by optimally using the production instalments and reaching high production flexibility.

3.4  SAWING AND SHAVING OF SIEVES

The straight timber beams laminated with glue are taken from the press mechanically and directed to the sawing machine by the conveyer. Depending on the data typed into the central computer, ends of timber beams can be sawed; timber is prepared according to the precise dimensions. The timber beams prepared in such a way are directed to the final milling machine by the conveyors. The timber beams laminated with glue are milled on the basis of the width and thickness in this machine; if necessary, 4 corners of timber beam are milled. The milling width of such machine is up to 600 mm, milling height – up to 300 mm. The final milling machine also performs the side profiling operations, when producing the lumber for wooden houses.

The curved or complex configuration timber beams are milled using four-side milling machine. Such unique milling machine is characterized by very big milling width (approx. 2,100 mm) and possibility to mill the curved timber beams from four sides.

4. FINAL PROCESSING

4.1 PROCESSING OF STANDARD PRODUCTS

The sawn and milled timber is carried by the conveyors to the zone where visual quality control is performed from all sides and small defects are eliminated when the timber is on the production line (dropped branches, opened holes of resin are filled). Later timber is conveyed to the machine where they are sealed by the protective film.

4.2 PROCESSING OF NON-STANDARD PRODUCTS

The operations of cutting timber beams in various angles (products for special orders), unallowable branches, holes of resin, not milled sections are filled in, steel elements not obstructing during the transportation are mounted in this bar. In addition, the timber beams can be impregnated, coated by the antipyrines, painted. Impregnation protects from turning into blue, mould and destroying fungus, and is used as the “bridge” in the paint system. The coating of antipyrines stops the spread of naked flame on the surface of constructions. The final painting guarantees durability, high quality, transparency, smoothness and aesthetics of the product.

5. QUALITY CONTROL

All production of UAB Jūrės medis is certified by the certificates of Otto Graf Institute in Germany. In addition, the company has certificates for Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and Russia.
The company has implemented the internal quality management system including every production process stage, from acceptance of raw materials up to the sale of final product. The aim of internal quality is to guarantee that all production meets the requirements set out in the standards. In addition, the checks of certifying Otto Graff Institute, defining the production conformity to the requirements of the certificates issued, are performed periodically.
